A necessary provision in Australian Standard AS1851 Routine Service of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment is to keep records of the service work carried out as evidence that the systems and equipment fit the intended purpose.
When the service work has been completed for each system and equipment, the consolidated reports for each procedure and equipment form evidence that the service routine has been satisfactorily completed or that failures have been noted or rectified.
An Annual Fire Safety Statement MUST BE ISSUED EVERY YEAR and includes all the essential Fire Safety Measures (FSM) that apply to a building.
Breathing Apparatus

Breathing Apparatus Sets are a life-safety device that provides breathable air in life-threatening environments such as firefighting or entering confined spaces.
Breathing Apparatus should only be performed by persons trained in using Breathing Apparatus Sets.
Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus “EEBA” Sets are for the use of evacuation out of a life-threatening environment. They are not designed for firefighting applications.
The minimum maintenance requirements for these devices are:
- yearly mask inspection and test
- five yearly discharge, cylinder tests and recharge

- six monthly tests to ensure that the lights remain operating for 90 minutes on battery power

Compliance with Australian Standard AS 3745 Emergency Control Organisation and Procedures for Buildings, Structures and Workplaces guarantees compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations. This Standard requires the development of two primary documents:
Emergency Plan – a set of procedures that document the response to be taken to a range of foreseeable emergencies such as fire, bomb threat, personal injury, personal threat etc.
Evacuation Diagrams – diagrams displayed at prominent locations that outline the evacuation paths and summarise the response by staff and visitors when evacuating the workplace.

Fire System Services offer fire blanket testing services, as well as advice on how to optimise the safety and accessibility of your blanket.
Fire blankets are perfect for use on class F fires (involving cooking fats and oils) and clothing fires – where a person can be wrapped in the blanket, suffocating the flame.
The blanket works by cutting off the oxygen supply and smothering the fire. A faulty blanket could be challenging to remove from its casing or have a tear that would allow the flow of oxygen through and fuel a flame.
Upon use on a fire, Fire Blankets must be disposed of immediately, and a new one must be obtained.
Once installed, fire blankets should be regularly maintained. The minimum maintenance requirements, as documented in South Australian legislation and regulations, are:

Once installed, fire extinguishers should be regularly maintained. The minimum maintenance requirements, as documented in South Australian legislation and regulations, are:
- six monthly inspection
- 12 monthly discharge (foam fire extinguishers)
- five yearly discharge, cylinder tests and recharge

Fire Hose Reels
Fire hose reels are first-attack fire equipment used to supplement fire extinguishers. They are designed to extinguish a small wood/paper-based fire or contain a fire while an area is evacuated.
They should not be used on fires involving electricity, cooking fats or petrol/oil.
South Australian regulations typically only require installing fire hose reels in buildings over 500 square metres.
Fire hose reels should be located within 4 metres of an exit from the building and 40 metres from any part of the building.
Once installed, fire hose reels should be regularly maintained. The minimum maintenance requirements, as documented in South Australian legislation and regulations, are:
- six monthly test
- Annual test where the hose is fully unwound.
Fire Hydrants
Fire hydrants supply water to the Fire Service if they are fighting a fire on your site.
South Australian regulations typically only require fire hydrants installed in buildings with insufficient coverage from street fire hydrants or where the building area is more significant than 500 square metres.
Once installed, fire hydrants should be regularly maintained. The minimum maintenance requirements, as documented in South Australian legislation and regulations, are:
- monthly inspection for damage and ensure that the hydrant is clear of obstructions
- annual test for the presence of water
- three yearly overhaul and flow tests to ensure that there is adequate water flow for firefighting purposes
- six yearly pressure tests to ensure that the pipework is sound and will not leak when being used by the fire service

A fire alarm (or fire indicator) panel is an early detection and warning system designed to communicate warning and evacuation directions to occupants at detecting a fire.
Once installed, Evacuation and Occupant Warning Systems should be regularly maintained. The minimum maintenance requirements, as documented in South Australian legislation and regulations, are:
- monthly test of the WIPs, alarm and evacuation tones
- annual test of a sample of areas to confirm that the sound levels are adequate
- Annual test of a sample of the fire detection devices to confirm the operation

Fire Sprinkler Systems are designed to contain and extinguish fire automatically. When the heat from the fire gets to a specific temperature, the fire sprinkler heads operate, spraying water over the fire.
The operation of the fire sprinkler system typically activates a fire alarm and evacuation system to alert the occupants of the building. The Fire Service is usually automatically advised to start the sprinkler system.
South Australian regulations may require a Fire Sprinkler System installed in buildings more significant than 2,000 square metres.
Once installed, a Fire Sprinkler System should be regularly maintained. The minimum maintenance requirements, as documented in South Australian legislation and regulations, are:
- Weekly test to ensure that each sprinkler system will go into alarm
- Annual test to ensure adequate water supply for the sprinkler system.

Certified service agents and disturbers for Rotarex FireDETEC, FirePro and Stat-X Aerosol Fire Suppression Systems, and we can service and maintain various assets from Marine, Vehicles, and Building Infrastructure.
Refill After a Release
If your Gaseous fire suppression system has been released, call Fire System Services for an emergency refill.
We can hydro-test and refill most fire suppression agents and are on call to get you back up and running with limited downtime.
You can deliver the cylinders to us at our facility, or we can send our technicians to disconnect and transport your cylinders, and we will take care of the whole process and get you back up and running in no time.
